Cold days but more sun coming 7 August

We spent today down at Geelong at the Wombat Gully Plant Farm and I had a great time talking to some families. Vanessa and Scott and their son who knew all the answers about why vegetables die in the garden. Vanessa and Scott bought a large pot for their son to use as his own garden. Planting up Brocoli and Savoy Cabbage will be great this time of year but watch out for those little grubs and eggs on the undersides of the leaves.

Sunday Susan the kids and I are going to plant blueberries, rasberries and thornless blackberries in the pots. 3 per pot. We will also use a magical mixture of black strap molasses and we will let you know how it goes.

Get your garden ready now for spring, get your soil and cow manure ready and think about what you want to plant.

We are pre ordering our tomatoes for planting out of 200mm pots so let us know if you would like some... Happy Growing and enjoy your wonderful produce

4th July - Tomatoes Shifted to Glass House

Well Alexander and I moved the Tomatoes out of the garden today (our 4 pots) into a new glasshouse we had built. I think that we will still get fruit for another few weeks. Today we planted more garlic, we divided the bok choy into another few pots.

We also planted out the 5 "black Diggers Club" pots which we need to do photos of for them in early August. Great day in the garden, getting ready for Spring.

Greensmart Pots Eltham: Winter afternoons in Andre's Garden

Winter afternoons in Andre's Garden

Hi everyone, well winter is a nice wet time in Melbourne. We are picking the following:

1. Brassica Rapa - Bok Choy for our stir fries with amazing fresh coriandrum sativum - Coriander
2. Fresh and lovely Brassica Oleracea Italica they are nice and long stems just like Brocolini
3. Tomatoes did not make it up into the new glass house as our handy man has been sick so we are delayed but we think next year we will have red tomatoes all the way till probably Mid July. Ours are still out in the open and still giving us red fruit that tastes amazing. The red parrots came down and ate a heap the other day little or rather big buggers.
4. Susan's little 6 pot herb garden is still giving us rocket, baby spinach, parsley and amazing feast of peppery tasting Nasturtium Officinale - Rorippa nasturtium-aquaticum Water Cress.

NEW NEWS Sushi Wushi in ELTHAM is now using our Herbs2Home Service. Stuart is picking fresh parsley, Coriander and soon he will have a wonderful watercress pot all being used in his wonderful asian trendy eatery in ELTHAM.

Sunday jobs are check my garlic pots for moisture and maybe need to add some perlite to aerate. Check seedlings in shed, check herb pots that are growing on the drive way area.

Weekly Update for Mark & Carolyn and everyone else :)

This week pea seeds and broad beans are good to plant. If you can get corriander it will grow really well. Cauliflower and Broccoli together in one large pot make a great mix together, remember to fill the pot and use the planting guide. Also Betroot x 15 in each large pot would be great. Today we planted 3 roses on one large pot with some tyhme and some pansies also looks great check out the new photo coming soon on the main page. We will also set up a new set in the flicker page. Remember if you plant broccoli and Cauliflowers to go and check for the eggs the white butterflies lay and squash them otherwise you will find your seedlings gone. Happy Growing with us.

Vasili's Garden

What a great day (andre here) I meet TV Legend at Buxton today at the sustainability expo. He is a great guy and his family are so nice. We chatted about gardens and when he did his story it was the same as the way I was brought up. Dad's with huge gardens, pigs on the spit in the back yard. I guess we are about the same age also. Got some good shots of him with the locals doing a Zorba and some flip video of him answering questions. Will post into the flicker site on the blog soon.

Sunday we are going up to Kilmore to visit Diana and Graham at the wonderful Silkie Gardens Rose Nursery. We will be making some FLip HD videos with them on rose care and such so they can use them on their website. Garden well and smell the roses and basil..

Official Launch of Greensmart Pots Eltham Sunday 11 April

Hi Everyone, today we open our business. We have been very busy today cooking and getting everything organised for our Sunday afternoon garden party. The garden looks wonderful, we had several people come by today to collect pots and a lovely man Dennis, from Bullen Art and Garden came over with his wife Lorraine to inspect what we had done to see if the Nursery would be interested in working with us on a display in their retail outlet. He must have been impressed as he asked to buy one then and there and take it home to have a play. Andre made some more videos today for the finished garden transformation which came out great.

We have ordered 50 Strawberry plants to go into another area of the garden when we rip out a heap of lavender (non productive stuff it is) and probably another 2 pots of different sorts of garlic, We will need to also plant another 2 pots of beetroot as all the seeds Andre planted are now thinned out and will be ready to transplant in a week or two.

Andre has been using the wonderful ECO 360 degree spray bottle from Organic Crop Potectorants which is great as he can mix up 1 Lt of Eco-Oil, Amino-Gro, Eco Weed, and Eco Neem and feed the plants and kill the bad bugs all in one hit with a fully organic set of products all australian made. The best thing is you can eat the produce straight away after as it is all organic.

Happy growing..Andre and Susan

Fine Nurseries coming on board

We had a wonderful time talking with the amazing staff at Rivers of Yarrambat today. (See URL in our partners section on the right hand side of the page)

They are so passionate about gardening. We made our first delivery there today and we will be working very closely with them over the next few weeks to ensure they are very successful with the Greensmart Pots.

Everything we planted last weekend is growing so well. This next 4 days we will be pulling out the Rubharb and potting that up, and installing another 6 large pots. Likely plantings include 2 more colorful mix of lettuce pots with 15 in each in such a small area. 3 small pots full to the brim of herbs from Scotsburn Nursey (thanks Peter) Single Pots full of Bok Choy, Chives, Corriander, and Andre will start some seed trays of cauliflower and Italian Broccoli in our potting shed.

Lastly we will thin the carrots we planed about 8 weeks ago direct in the Large Pots, and also thin and make a another large and some small pots of Beetroot.

Have a great Easter, Look out for new photos to be posted on the Flickr space over the weekend

Rivers Nursey in Yarrambat are about to build a display garden

We had great news today that Rivers Nursery have decided to build a display in the nursery and will be stocking our wonderful greensmart pots very soon. Rivers is a very special nursery in Yarrambat outside of Eltham and they have a wonderful cafe, spa and home ware store also. We look forward to supplying our pots to Rivers and working together with them.

Early March Update - Carrots and Betroot are sprouting

Well what an exciting time of the year, our Tomatoes in the original old garden beds are just about finished, so they will be coming out this weekend when Andre gets home from India. We have all the cow menure and compost ready to add to the circular bed in the middle of the garden as I want to have a display of sweat peas and flowers to attract bees to the garden. This will be the only spot that we don't use the greensmart pots as I want to do this a little different. But when the last semi circular bed is emptied we will place another 4 greensmar pots there. Andre planted chanteny carrot seeds and betroot about 10 days ago and placed a damp towel over the top to ensure the seeds would germinate and not dry out. After 4 days the seeds had started to come thru the soil and they are growing nicely how exciting.

On the weekend Andre cooked us a wonderful chicken curry with fresh basil, chilli, parsley and corriander all from my kitchen herb garden off the back deck.

Another great week of growing .... enjoy and please comment on our blog.

News Flash - Greensmart Pots Eltham

We are launching our business on the week of the 22nd March 2010. We are the exclusive distributor of the amazing self watering pot system invented here in australia. We have transformed our old vegetable garden into a greensmart garden.

Busy Sunday

Well this weekend we started the transformation of the old garden beds. I worked on the area at the back deck near the kitchen and built a 5 pot herb garden, We cleared out the old bark, leaves and mess, I placed 350 x 350 cement blocks down, important to make them level. Then placed 14-20mm sharps small rocks around before placing the pots. We transplanted, spinach (2 pots) parsley afro and italian (1 pot each) and rocket in one pot. Down in the main garden we did another 8 pots. 4 with GL tomatoes 3 per pot. Then we transplanted the lettuces from the old garden into a pot, 2 pots with beetroot seeds and one pot with beans.
